Course philosophy

This course has been designed to provide desired knowledge in the field of International Trade. The objective of this course is to acquaint the participants with Practical knowledge in the wide spectrum of Export-Import which can be of great help to working professionals for enhancing their prospects and also to young entrepreneurs intending to start their own Export-Import businesses. The course will help young boys/girls who plan to undertake job in the Foreign Trade Business.

Paper I-International Marketing

A. Introduction Basics of International Marketing, Need & Importance Difference between Domestic & International marketing, Scope of export marketing & Globalization – Concept and Impact on International Marketing.

B. Basic Principles of International Marketing: Market Segmentation / Targeting & Positioning, Identifying Foreign Markets, Sources of Information and Importance of Data, Overseas Marketing Research: Method & Importance, Market Entry Strategies.

C. Export Organisations: Institutions involved in export Promotion: DGFT, FIEO, RBI, CUSTOMS, ITPO, EXIM BANK, ECGC, EPCs, Commercial banks, Commodity Boards, Canalizing Agencies and Chambers of Commerce.

Paper II-Export Finance, Banking & Exchange Regulations

A. Export Costing: Cost Concepts –
Costing in Export-Import, Duty Drawback, DEPB, Concessional Customer Tariffs, Terminal Excise Duties, Sales Tax, Octroi, etc. Income Tax benefits, Deemed Exports. Incoterms – Ex-works/FOB/ CFR/ CIF/ CIFC. Cost Sheet for Exports (Elements)/ Freight Calculation/ Insurance Premia calculation. Terms of Payments – Advance payment, Documents against payments, Documents against acceptance, Letter of Credit.

B. Export Finance:
Pre-shipment Finance, Packing Credit, Post-shipment Credit/ Discounting of Documents, Interest rate Structure. Exchange Rate Mechanism –Role Played by RBI a Commercial Banks Forward Exchange Cover.

C. FEMA 1999:
Foreign Exchange Regulations & Liberalization. FEMA Relating to Export-Import. Foreign Exchange Dealers Association.

Paper III-Export Procedure and Documentation

A. Procedures

How to set up Export companies—IEC Number, Exporters Profile, Identity Card, EDP Number, RCMC of Export Promotion Councils, Commodity Boards—FIEO. Export Sales Contract – Terms & Conditions. Terms of Shipment. Processing of an Export Order.


Documentation – Performa Invoice, Commercial Invoices and its Attestation, Packing List, Inspection Certificate, Certificate of Origin, GSP Certification, Shipping Bills, ARE1 Forms, Mate Receipts, GR-Form or SDF, Marine Insurance Policy, ECGC Policy, Bill of Exchange, Bank Certificate For Export B/L, AWB, Special Consular Invoice. Pre-shipment Inspection Formalities, Inspection Agencies, Compulsory Inspection Control Act 1963. Custom Clearance of Export Cargo – Factory Stuffing. Contents of L/C, Scrutiny of L/C. Preparation and Submission of Documents to Exporter’s bank for Negotiation. Shipment through couriers.

B. Shipping
Organizing of shipping for cargo. Different mode of operation of shipping. Conference systems and practice. Role of freight forwarders, steamer/ship’s agent, shipping agent. Containerization-Identification/FCL/LCL/ Container Freight Station (CFS)/Inland Container Depot (ICD) Multi-Modal Transport Systems(MMTS). Cargo Consolidation. Freight rate structure/ Calculation of Freight/ Types of Freight. Chartering Practices. Transportation Documents: Bill of Lading, AWB. Developments in Electronic Information Technology in the field of Multi-Modal Transport. Electronic Data Interchange (EDI).

C. Cargo Insurance
Introduction, need and importance. Basic Principles of Insurance as applicable to cargo clauses, Inland transit Clauses: Coverage, Exclusions, and Duration. Premium, Components, RBI, Regulations, Claims-Procedure, Documentation, Time Limits.

Paper IV-Import Management

A. Introduction
Importance and Need of Import. Government‘s Objectives under the Import Policy. Structure of Import Policy. Import Tariff Structure. Sourcing of Supply. ITC (HS) Classification of Export & Import. Procedure for Clearing of Import Cargo - Preparation of Bill of Entry, Valuation & Assessment of Customs Duty, Exemption Benefits, Anti-Dumping Duty, Counter Vailing Duty (CVD) etc. Import against different schemes- Duty Exemption Scheme (Advance Licence), Duty Free Replenishment Certificate, Export Promotion Capital Goods Scheme (EPCG Scheme). Payments of Customs duty by cash & utilizations of DEPB. Import of – Technology, Sample/Baggage Rules. Import through courier services.

C. Central Excise
Central Excise Act – 1944, Main Provision related to Exports & Imports, Packing sealing of Goods for Exports, Factory stuffing/warehouse stuffing of cargo for exports, supervision and sealing of containers, Cenvat credit with reference to Exports & Imports. Clearance of goods under bond / under claim for rebate.
